The Idaho-Eastern Oregon Onion Committee administers Marketing Order #958. This program requires product grade and quality standards that exceed USDA standards. Each bag or box that is shipped as US #1 must be Federal/State inspected before it can be shipped. Idaho and Eastern Oregon is one of the largest onion growing regions in the United States growing yellow, red, and white Spanish variety onions with 90% of the crop the yellow variety. Harvest begins in August for domestic shipments and export shipments begin in September. The Idaho-Eastern Oregon Onion Committee strives to work with all segments of the produce industry to provide quality onions with consistent sizing.
